ABOUT

Dr. George Malietzis

MBBS, MSc, PHD, FRCS

George Malietzis is a Consultant General and Colorectal surgeon and a clinical lecturer in Surgery and Cancer at Imperial College, London.

He graduated from Athens, Greece in 2007 and then moved to the UK to undertake a master’s degree in Cancer Therapeutics at Barts and the London School of Medicine. This was followed by his foundation and core surgical training years. In 2015 he completed a PhD at Imperial College London and a PG degree in Medical Education. Since then, he holds the post of the clinical lecturer for Imperial College, London and has numerous publications in high index scientific journals. His research interest encompasses clinical and mechanistic studies of colorectal surgery, complex biostatistical models, networks, and evidence synthesis to guide policy decisions, novel health technology assessment and diagnostic accuracy of biomarkers.

He subsequently commenced his higher surgical training and completed it in Northwest London Deanery. His training included broad general surgical training with a focus on gastrointestinal surgery in busy district general hospitals as well as in London tertiary centres of excellence, like the Royal Marsden and St Mark's hospital. As such he has a wide range of experience in gastrointestinal surgery, emergency and elective general surgery.

He became a specialist general surgeon having been awarded the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) by the General Medical Council (GMC), after completing his surgical training and passing all the relevant exams (FRCS En). He was then appointed as a consultant colorectal surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

He endeavours to offer the highest standards of care for his patients across a spectrum of colorectal and gastrointestinal conditions including rectal bleeding, haemorrhoids, perianal fistula, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, diverticular disease, abdominal pain, pelvic floor pathology and hernia. He has featured in national and international conferences and media to opine on colorectal conditions.

In the winter of 2021, he moved back to Cyprus to offer his services in Limassol.
